SWALEDALE, NORTH YORKSHIRE


Reeth is the unofficial capital of the dale surrounded by a magnificent landscape of stonewalls and field barns as well as spectacular wild flower meadows in summer. Reeth offers shops, a post office, pubs serving food, tearooms and Tourist information.

Local attractions include the market towns of Leyburn and Richmond with its castle and Georgian theatre. Keld and Muker are delightful Swaledale hamlets to start walks with the Arkle Beck and the River Swale offering pretty riverside walks.

The Coast to Coast Walk  passes just one mile away. Mountain bikes can be hired at the Dales Bike Centre in Fremington, near Reeth to explore the Swale trail running from Reeth to the upper Dale.

Other outdoor activities include canoeing, potholing, caving, horse riding and bird watching or simply exploring the Dales villages and market towns.

Aerial Extreme in nearby Bedale provides adventure experience.

The Reeth and District Angling Club have access to five separate fishing beats on the river Swale. Fishing is for brown trout, predominantly by fly-fishing.
